This policy covers every tool published by Structured Works — current and future. Rather than write a new policy for each one, we’ve written down the rules we build by. Every tool we make follows them.
What our tools access
Each tool requests only the permissions it needs to do its specific job — nothing broader. Most of our tools work on the single document, sheet, slide deck, or file you have open at the time, and request narrow, non-sensitive scopes like “the currently active file” rather than blanket access to your Drive, email, or other Google services.
The exact permissions any individual tool requests are listed on its own install screen and its Google Workspace Marketplace listing before you install it. If a tool ever needs broader access to do something meaningful, that will be stated clearly at install time — we don’t request permissions “just in case.”
Matrix Inserter for Docs™: exact permissions and how they’re used
Matrix Inserter for Docs™ requests these specific Google permissions:
- documents.currentonly — view and edit the specific Google Doc you have open, so it can insert the matrix you build in the sidebar. It never accesses any other file in your Google Drive.
- script.container.ui — display the add-on’s sidebar, which is the entire interface used to build and insert a matrix.
- script.storage — store your license status (free or Premium) and any saved matrix presets, tied to your Google account. This stays within Google’s own Apps Script storage and is never sent to a Structured Works server, because we don’t run one.
- script.external_request — connect to Gumroad’s License Verification API (api.gumroad.com) solely to check whether a pasted license key is valid when you activate Premium. Only the license key and product ID are sent; no document content or other Google Account data is ever included.
What our tools do with that access
By default: nothing beyond the task in front of you. Our tools read what they need, perform the calculation, transformation, or insertion you asked for, and show you the result. Unless a specific tool’s listing says otherwise, none of our tools store your content, log it, or transmit it outside the Google Apps Script environment running inside your own Google account.
Data protection
Security procedures are in place to protect the confidentiality of your data. Because our tools run entirely inside Google’s own Apps Script environment and process your document data within your own Google account session, your data never passes through or rests on any server we operate. Where any data is transmitted to a third party — for example, payment details for paid tools, handled entirely by Gumroad, our merchant of record — that transmission is protected using industry-standard encryption in transit. We use encryption to protect your information wherever it applies to our processing.
Data retention and deletion
We do not retain Google user data. Our tools access data only for the duration of the active session needed to perform the function you requested (for example, calculating a word count), and nothing is stored, cached, or logged by Structured Works once that function completes.
Because no Google user data is retained by us, there is nothing on our end for you to request deletion of. Uninstalling a tool, or revoking its access from your Google Account permissions, immediately and completely ends any access — no residual data is held by Structured Works after that point.
What our tools don’t do
- They don’t access files, documents, or data beyond what’s needed for the specific task.
- They don’t use cookies, third-party analytics, or behavioral tracking.
- They don’t sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers. We don’t have any.
- They don’t run in the background or access your account when you’re not actively using them.
Paid features
Some tools offer optional paid features. Where that’s the case, payment is processed by Gumroad, our merchant of record, which collects and handles your payment details directly — we don’t collect or store your card information ourselves. Gumroad’s own privacy policy governs how it handles that payment data.
Any tool-specific licensing data (e.g., whether a feature is unlocked) is stored only as needed to run that feature, using Google’s own script storage tied to your account — not on a Structured Works server, because we don’t run one.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. Since it applies to every tool we publish, a single update here covers all of them. Continued use of any Structured Works tool after a change means you accept the update.
